What is RoHS?
The RoHS Directive is an EU Legal Directive for environmental regulations concerning the Restriction of Use of Hazardous Substances. The Directive requires the removal of six hazardous substances from electric and electronic equipment (Pb, Cd, Cr, Hg, Br compounds). To see all the elements our XRFs can identify click here.

RoHS is not a law; rather, it is a directive which restricts the use of six specific hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment.

RoHS is closely related to WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment), another directive which sets goals for the collection, recycling and recovery of electrical goods. WEEE is part of a legislative initiative to resolve the problem of huge amounts of toxic e-waste.
